Preschool Storytime is a free service.
Our mission is to instill in children a love of reading and books.
Most Wednesdays at 10:30; we will take a break in August.
Designed for 2 to 4 year old children and parents or caregivers.
Story time is usually 30 minutes.
Story time will be canceled if Perry Public Schools are closed due to weather.
Story time is year round with intermittent breaks. If there is a break, parents are welcome to bring their kids to check out books and allow their kids to interact with their friends!
Check library calendar for dates.
Make story time enjoyable for all.
Stay with your child during the program.
Arrive a few minutes early to get into the mode.
Remove children who become disruptive. You are welcome to return when the child calms down.
Bring that library card because after all the fun is a great time to check out books!
This group of parents and grandparents are very inclusive to newcomers. Many friendships have been made. If you are new to the community consider joining. Literacy might not be the only benefit!
Most Mondays at 3:30.
The program usually involves some food. But it will also include a craft, game or steam component. Or something else fun!
The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless! Read books (any books) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes, you can repeat books) before your child starts kindergarten.
Register your child or grandchild at the library and receive a registration packet to get you started as well as a free book.
We usually have a graduation party in the fall for those who have competed the program the previous year.
"By reading to your child starting at a young age, even before they’re able to communicate verbally, you help lay the neurological groundwork for effective language use and literacy. That’s partly because books expose children to vocabulary and grammar that they wouldn’t normally hear. “When kids are with caregivers or parents, they’re exposed to the same language, the same vocabulary words, the same patterns of speaking, which is wonderful,” says Dr. Phillips. “But books allow them to hear new vocabulary and new ways of putting words together, which expands their ability to make sense of and use language.”
Research has found that young children whose parents read to them daily have been exposed to at least 290,000 more words by the time they enter kindergarten than kids who aren’t read to regularly. And depending on how much daily reading time kids get, that number can go up to over a million words. All that exposure likely makes it easier for kids to expand their vocabularies and understand the variety of texts they’ll need to read as they get older, both inside school and out."
From the Child Mind Institute
Tweens (ages 9-11) meet on the first Thursday from 4-5:30.
Teens (Ages 12-18) meet on the third Thursday from 4-5:30.
The two age groups usually do the same activity, but we separate by age. Occasionally the activities will vary. Yes, food is usually served and we include a craft, game or Steam activity.
Our Book Bag program is a bi-monthly subscription bag just for ages 9-18! Subscribers will have one library book selected based on your input. Snacks and surprises are yours to keep.
Space is limited.
Here’s how it works:
If you would like to get one of these bags, you must sign up in-person or online using your library card before the 15th of the month and select which of the bags you would like to receive. You will not be able to participate if the library card has overdue materials or is blocked due to outstanding fines.
Watch your email! We will send you an email when it is ready for pickup. You will have from the 1st of the month to the 7th of the month to pick up your bag. The book will be checked out to your library card and will need to be returned to receive the next bag.
Return the empty bag with the completed comment/review card by the 15th of the month, so we can prepare the next bag. If the bag is not returned by the deadline, you will not be allowed to get another bag for that school year.

We show a new release popular movie on the 2nd and 4th Thursday morning at 10am. Due to public performance rights, we can't release the title. Call the library and we will tell you what movie we are showing. Bring a drink with a screw on lid, and we will provide freshly popped corn. We unlock the west doors at 9:45am.
The adults who attend this event are very cordial and welcome newcomers. This is an adult activity and we have plenty of events for the younger crowd!
